TERMS OF REFERENCE (TOR) For MEAL Assistant Intern position
Location: Mukalla, Hadramout Governorate.
Duration: 4 to 6 months
Benefits: USD 150/month (no additional benefits)
Overview:
CARE is committed to improving the lives of vulnerable populations in Yemen through integrated Food Security and Livelihood programs. As part of our ongoing efforts in Hadramout Governorate, we aim to strengthen Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) systems to ensure program effectiveness and quality.
To support this, CARE is offering an internship opportunity for a fresh graduate interested in gaining practical experience in MEAL functions. The intern will work closely with the MEAL team and receive training, guidance, and exposure to MEAL tools, procedures, and fieldwork.
Purpose of the Internship
This internship is designed to provide a recent graduate with hands-on experience in MEAL-related activities. The intern will learn about data collection, community feedback mechanisms, and reporting, contributing to the improvement of program quality while developing their own professional skills.
- Key Learning Areas and Support Tasks:
1. Data Collection and Entry (Learning Focus):
- Support the MEAL team in data collection & preparing tools for surveys and assessments (household surveys, FGDs, etc.).
- Learn and assist in conducting basic data entry and verification tasks.
- Observe and participate in field data collection activities under supervision.
2. Enumerator Support (Training Participation):
- Assist in organizing training sessions for enumerators.
- Help with monitoring enumerators during data collection to ensure data quality and adherence to protocols.
- Keep records of enumerator attendance, payments, and contracts.
- Support field visits to project sites and, with remote guidance, assist in documenting key observations through brief field visit summaries or checklists.
3. Community Feedback and Response Mechanism (CFRM):
- Learn about the CFRM process and tools.
- Support the implementation of the CFRM at the field level through Providing the Sensitization of CFRM mechanism to the beneficiaries (e.g., hotline, suggestion boxes)
- Receive complaints and feedback from beneficiaries during field visit.
4. Reporting and Documentation Support:
- Assist in organizing and archiving MEAL-related documents (e.g., attendance sheets, reports).
- Help prepare simple summaries and basic reports under guidance.
5. Administrative Support:
- Provide support in arranging field visits, meetings, and printing tools or checklists.
- Assist with communication and coordination between MEAL and other teams.
- Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the internship, the MEAL Intern is expected to:
- Understand the basics of MEAL processes in humanitarian programming.
- Be familiar with data collection tools (paper-based and mobile).
- Gain practical exposure to community feedback and program monitoring.
- Improve skills in documentation and field-level coordination.
- Internship Qualifications:
- Recent graduate (within the last two years) with a degree in social sciences, development studies, statistics, agriculture, or a related field.
- Interest in humanitarian and development work.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Familiarity with mobile data collection tools such as Kobo Toolbox or ODK is considered an advantage.
- Willingness to learn and participate in fieldwork.
- Good communication skills in Arabic (English is a plus).
