Overview
This internship offers a valuable opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in data management within a humanitarian context. The intern will support the transition of program data from Excel to ActivityInfo, while learning about data systems, quality assurance, and digital tools used in monitoring and evaluation. The role is designed to build foundational skills in data handling, verification, and reporting, with close mentorship from experienced staff.
Purpose of the Internship
The internship aims to develop the intern’s capacity in managing program data, ensuring data quality, and supporting digital transformation efforts. Through practical tasks and guided learning, the intern will gain exposure to real-world data workflows and contribute to improving data systems that support evidence-based programming.
Key Learning Areas and Support Tasks
1. Data Migration and Digital Tools (Learning Focus)
- Learn how to prepare and format Excel datasets for structured import into ActivityInfo.
- Support the migration of historical and current data using standardized templates.
- Understand field mapping and data type alignment during migration.
- Participate in post-migration reviews to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
2. Data Entry and System Management
- Practice entering and updating data in ActivityInfo and Excel-based templates.
- Learn how to maintain organized and up-to-date digital records.
- Assist in configuring ActivityInfo forms and indicators under supervision.
3. Data Quality and Verification
- Gain skills in reviewing data for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Learn techniques for identifying and correcting data errors.
- Collaborate with field teams to understand and resolve data quality issues.
4. Support to Monitoring and Evaluation
- Assist in generating basic reports and dashboards from ActivityInfo.
- Participate in the design and testing of data collection tools.
- Join data quality assessments and contribute to improvement discussions.
5. Perform any other tasks as required and assigned by the line manager.
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in information management, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Recent graduates
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with ActivityInfo or similar platforms is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
