Internal Advert for Data Systems Intern – Internship Position

Location:  Aden (with remote support to field hubs)
Duration: 3 months
Supervisor: Information Management Officer, CARE Yemen

Overview

This internship offers a unique opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in digital data systems used in humanitarian programming. The intern will support the development, testing, and rollout of CARE Yemen’s centralized data platform—ActivityInfo—which is replacing Excel-based reporting. The intern will work closely with the Information Management Officer to learn about form design, data migration, and system configuration.

Purpose of the Internship

The internship aims to build the intern’s capacity in digital data management, with a focus on ActivityInfo. The intern will contribute to the creation of project-specific forms, support data migration, and assist in training and rollout activities. This is a learning-focused role designed to provide exposure to real-world data workflows and humanitarian information systems.

Key Learning Areas and Support Tasks

1. Form Development and Configuration

  • Learn how to design and configure digital forms in ActivityInfo.
  • Support the creation of forms for active projects, including indicators, disaggregation, and validation rules.
  • Assist in linking forms to master lists (e.g., locations, partners, donors).

2. Data Migration and Mapping

  • Review Excel and Kobo data templates and help map them to ActivityInfo fields.
  • Support the preparation of bulk upload templates.
  • Participate in testing data imports and identifying errors.

3. Data Entry and System Management

  • Practice entering and updating data in ActivityInfo and Excel-based templates.
  • Learn how to maintain organized and up-to-date digital records.
  • Assist in configuring ActivityInfo forms and indicators under supervision.

3. Training and Rollout Support

  • Help develop user-friendly training materials (guides, slides, short videos).
  • Assist in delivering training sessions to field teams and partners.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting support during the first reporting cycle.

4. Documentation and Handover

  • Contribute to documenting form structures, validation rules, and data mapping.
  • Learn how to maintain and update forms for future use.
  • Support the development of a simple internal guide for ongoing system management.

By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of ActivityInfo and digital data systems in humanitarian settings.
  • Demonstrate improved skills in form design, data mapping, and system testing.
  • Gain confidence in supporting training and rollout of digital tools.
  • Be familiar with CARE’s approach to data quality and reporting.

Internship Qualifications

  • Recent graduate with a diploma or bachelor’s degree in information management, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with ActivityInfo or Kobo is an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and interest in data systems.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to learning and professional development.
