Terms of Reference (ToR)

Location: Aden (with support to field offices as required)
Duration: 4 months
Benefits: USD 150/month (no additional benefits)
Supervisor: MEAL Officer, CARE Yemen

 

Overview

This internship offers a valuable opportunity for a recent graduate to gain practical experience in Community Feedback and Response Mechanisms (CFRM), accountability to affected populations, and humanitarian MEAL systems. The intern will work closely with the Knowledge management and accountability team to support the receipt, processing, tracking, and reporting of community feedback and complaints received through various channels, while learning about accountability principles and beneficiary engagement in humanitarian programs.

 

Purpose of the Internship

The internship aims to strengthen the intern's knowledge and practical skills in accountability, complaint and feedback management, community engagement, and data management. The intern will support CFRM activities under the guidance of the senior Knowledge management and accountability officer while gaining exposure to CARE's accountability standards and beneficiary-centered programming approaches.

 

Key Learning Areas and Support Tasks

 

    1. CFRM and Community Engagement Support
  • Gain practical experience in receiving, registering, and tracking complaints, feedback, and inquiries through CARE's feedback channels, including support to the Country Office hotline.
  • Support data entry, record management, and routine data quality checks within the CFRM system.
  • Learn how complaints, including sensitive cases, are categorized, referred, and followed up for resolution.
  • Develop an understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection principles in complaint management.
  • Leann how to observe and support community consultation and beneficiary satisfaction activities.

 

    1. Complaint and Feedback Management
  • Learn about accountability and CFRM processes within humanitarian programs.
  • Support community awareness activities on feedback and complaint mechanisms.
  • Assist in maintaining accessible and effective community feedback channels.

 

    1. Data Management, Reporting and Documentation
  • Support CFRM data management, reporting, and record-keeping activities.
  • Assist in analyzing and summarizing complaint and feedback data to support accountability and program improvement.
  • Learn data protection principles and contribute to maintaining accurate CFRM documentation and follow-up records.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of Community Feedback and Response Mechanisms in humanitarian programming.
  • Demonstrate improved skills in complaint registration, tracking, and reporting.
  • Understand principles of accountability, safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection.
  • Develop confidence in supporting community engagement and beneficiary communication activities.
  • Become familiar with accountability systems and practices.

 

Internship Qualifications

  • Recent graduate or final-year student in Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in accountability, community engagement, and humanitarian programming.
  • Proficient typing skills, with a typing speed of 50 WPM.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and interact respectfully with diverse communities.
  • Previous volunteer or internship experience in humanitarian or development organizations is an advantage.

  • Assisted with complaint tracking, data management, reporting, and documentation.
  • Contributed to community engagement and accountability activities.
